The reserve lake Jeinimeni is located 57 kilometres South west from Chile Chico, its extension is 161.100 hectares where it is possible to find the biggest biodiversity in the region. Jeinimeni has a privileged scenic beauty in Patagonia, there are 4 ecosystems in the region: caducifolious forests, ever-green forests, steppe and high tops.
In Jeinimeni there are more than 13 glaciers, 3 lakes, 30 lagoons, 18 rivers, big primitive valleys with unique endemic species in the world and some others recently found, archaeological sites with rupestrian paintings- dated 8 thousand years approximately- such as the “Hands Cave”, located near the Pedregoso stream. It can also be found other places such as moon valleys and fossil zones. There is also a micro climate in most of the reserve, the average of rainfall is under 350mm per year, opposite to the South East sector with more than 250mm per year.
Without any doubt, Jeinimeni is a paradise in Patagonia that gets together all its wonders and, at the same time it is a place that has remained isolated from the world. The number of visitors per year is under 300 and people are mostly scientists or national organizations to support CONAF (National Forest Corporation) such as Raleigh International. This is the reason why the reserve remains virgin and without pollution, everything is waiting to be discovered and known. It is possible to walk in its big forests and find antique lengas, go through the primitive valleys among huemules to climb to the top of some high mountains – some important tops are Jeinimeni and Tronadores. The last one is the most important in the reserve with 2.848 metres over sea level. From its tops you can have one of the most amazing views of Patagonia due to the micro climate, it can be observed the lake Chelenco and the northern ice fields with the majestic mount San Valentín.
Jeinimeni is a unique place to practise eco tourism and adventure activities for all types of people, it is ideal to go fly-fishing in its lakes, lagoons and rivers. You can go alone or in groups, with or without any booking, you can go for a day or more and it is possible to find trips and experimented people to guide you in an unforgettable experience.
